What’s better: Air Dryers or Paper Towels?

As more and more products show up in order to make our lives easier and more convenient, every now and then we should take a step back look to see it technology has really progressed us forward, or has given us one more thing that can break down.

For the past couple of decades, the hand – or air dryers – have become a bathroom familiarity to most Americans. Dating all the way back to the 50s the hand dryer was looked at as a solution to paper towel waste. However, one of the benefits you may not know, is how inexpensive they are compared to their paper towel alternative. Combine this with relative low maintenance and lack of possible issues (some try to flush paper towels and cause the toilet to overflow) it doesn’t seem to be much to complain about. So why do some still use the paper towel approach?

The main benefit of the paper towel is basically serving as a glove for grabbing door handles. Many are rightly a little weary about grabbing handles in a public restroom, and with paper towels, you have a fast, easy buffer between your bare hand and everything else in the room. The other benefit of paper towels is that it’s not the air dryer. Recently there have been studies that suggestion they actually blow fecal matter all around the restroom (gross) and can be really unsanitary unless the filter is routinely changed.

So, there are pros and cons to each, but one thing for sure is that they each require upkeep and a trusted person to make sure that things are cleaned on a schedule. Contact us to learn more about how we can make sure your bathrooms stay clean day in and day out.
